Me Time Habits

Me time/Self care, I am happy to say is quite a common phrase these days. It is so important for physical and mental health. Since becoming a mum and having a chronic condition I have really realised just how important it is.

You don’t have to set off to an expensive spa to get the me time and it can be 5 minutes or an hour its really up to you. I often hear people say “I don’t have time’ and it really bugs me because if you have 5-10 minutes to scroll through facebook… then you do have time.

These are the things I do to help me hit reset and recharge:

  1. Sounds so silly to actually write down but I breathe, I sit down for 2 minutes and breathe in and out deeply, I use the breathe app on my Apple Watch for this but set a 2 minute timer, or download the millions of apps designed just for this purpose. If you have 10 minutes I 100% recommend the Headspace App.
  2. Shower/Bath, sounds a bit mental to use personal hygiene as that me time but if you can be alone…. usually once Jake is in bed or James is playing with Jake. I milk this on a Tuesday and Friday when its hair washing day haha!
  3. Cooking, now I rarely use this and if I do use it, it is when Jacob is at school. Just batch cooking pasta sauces to cooking fairy cakes, as long as I am totally on what I am doing I find it relaxing.
  4. Spending time with my friends, mainly friends I can 100% be myself around, I find it so exhausting worrying about saying the right thing so when I am with certain friends where it doesn’t matter if I say something weird, they just get me, I come away relaxed.
  5. Listen to music and clean, haha now I know this is odd if you hate cleaning and if this is the case then just listen to music and have a boogie but I love putting Kisstory on my Alexa and cracking on with the dusting.
  6. Read with Jacob, we take turns in reading and it is so nice listening to Jacob read to me, he does get bored though so we swap which I love.
  7. Sticking with the reading… my Kindle has been my best friend I love it.
  8. Watching Netflix, I find finding something to binge on is brilliant, I have been watching Suits and I am hooked.
  9. Playing a game on my phone, nothing better than putting my phone on Airplane mode and playing Best Fiends… addictive, annoying and totally distracting from thoughts of daily life.
  10. And last but not least, writing. I lost the love for writing for awhile but slowly I am getting it back. Instead of writing on my laptop I have been putting pen to paper and its so therapeutic.

Hope this has given you some tips to just get even 5 minutes to yourself. Forget the housework for 5 minutes and washing and do something that helps reset the brain. I don’t do all of these in one day because I am a mum and have a life, but it is easier to grab those 5 minutes now Jacob is 5, at school and a lot more independent. XO

My Boy has Started School..

Ahh.. I can’t believe I can even say my boy has started school!! I honestly don’t know where the time has gone. Jacob started last Wednesday and I am so proud of him! He looks incredibly cute in his uniform..

He seems very proud in his uniform and he has gone for 3 mornings so far. He was very content and was quite happy when we started to walk away. I left… and was emotional (obviously!) but didn’t cry haha! James has been off too so could do the school run with me haha.. all about support and all that jazz. The first morning my friend and I went for breakfast while James did a tip run so time went quickly.

After Jacobs first day we went for cake and the park… and he was exhausted that evening…

But day three and he was still skipping to school… yay!

Jacob wont start full time until October so they ease them in really gently, not like when I started school… chuck us in and get on with it haha! That was a very long time ago though.

My little guy was so ready for school, he has loads of energy, eager to learn and asks so many questions. I try and do things with him at home and upped this a lot over the summer holidays to get him prepared, even little things like putting his own socks on. He was a bit lazy before which is my fault as he is my baby and I always wanted to help him, luckily he can now get himself dressed. Its like he is growing up so quick…. (I am not crying…honest… lol)

I had a few concerns though, like what if he gets upset, what if he wants the toilet and needs help etc, just little things I didnt need to worry about as the school/teachers are incredible and Jake can use the toilet at home without trouble so really is just irrational thinking.

Anywho… I know this isnt my usual post but I really wanted to share and something for Jacob to look back on when he’s older! XO

My Weekend Bag

I am off to a spa for the night (Champney’s Spa) for my friends hen do and to say I am excited is a total understatement. I rarely ever have a night away from Jake and can count on one hand how many times I have since he has been born. This will be the first night I have left Jake with James for the night as usually James and I are together.

Jacob will be fine with his dad… and it will do us all good I think. Good for me to relax and spend time with my friends, and Jacob used to not having me there at night and knowing daddy can get up too haha. (Sorry James..!! LOL)

I got my bag out and I love this bag as I can fit so much into it, it is also sentimental as it was my hospital bag when I was in hospital with little Jake. First thing I always pack is clothes for the next day. I will wear the same jeggings and just change my top, I am sure we will spend the majority of the time in a robe anyway.

I have this lovely Champney’s bag that I got with a gift set and I have packed all my minis and essentials, toothbrush, toothpaste, mini body lotion, shower gel and skincare. Luckily I have all the minis of what I use so that is so handy! As you can see I’m taking everything. Even a bit of make up.

I am not taking my laptop as staying away from Social Media for the 2 days and night. I will have my phone though as will need to be contactable just in case and I will want to speak to Jake about 100 times haha. So I will be taking my charger, and my straighteners.

Also packed a couple of girly films and face masks for the 5 of us.

I am going to do a post of the spa trip, so will take lots of photos as will be taking them anyway as its a hen do. Cant wait to share the experience with you all. XX
